Michael Vick Back In The NFL

Wow how 2 years goes by. Seems like yesterday we were all watching ESPN and the latest developments on the Michael Vick saga. But now he is back with the Philadelphia Eagles and ready to play!

I will admit.. when this all went down I was as eager as anyone to see Michael Vick to some hard time, I guess as an American culture we like to see our heroes fall just to show they are as human as the rest of us. But now after 2 years the story pops back up. One has to think about the crime, the punishment and choose a side.

Forgive or not to forgive?

In my personal opinion I choose to forgive Michael Vick. Why you may ask? Because looking back, what he did was a crime. Dog fighting is illegal by law and therefore he must be punished. The man did the crime, did the time, end of story.

Not so fast... lets also remember this is America. Home of PETA. Where it seems animals have more rights than people. What if the scenario was different, what if instead of dogs, Michael Vick was running (or taking part in) a human- fighting ring? Doesn't sound so bad right? could we forgive him then?

Was his crime that serious?

We must remember he did not kill people, although I feel if he did he would be forgiven allot faster. Crime is punished by severity. Hit someone you do little time, kill someone you do more time. Michael Vick did not kill anyone, he spent less than 2 years in jail, some people do more time for drunk driving. But we forgive them.

Why is it so hard to forgive Michael Vick?

Now as a dog owner and animal lover, morally what he did was wrong. If you have a heart you cannot watch animals kill each other, that's being human. But in reality animals kill each other everyday, its the law of nature. Dogs fight all the time, now if someone wants to bet on what dog will win. There should be nothing wrong with that, except you should have your soul examined.

In the end they were just dogs.

If you make a rule that you cannot kill dogs, then you must make the same rule for all animals. All hunters should be arrested! You mean there is a legal "sport" where people go into the woods and look for animals to kill? hmmmm That's horrible! How about if you run over an animal you go to jail, kill a mosquito get a ticket? It is ridiculous. Everyone needs to forgive and forget, obviously the man is sorry. Sorry for what he did or sorry for getting caught, who cares. I seriously doubt he will be running any more dog fighting rings. In the end that's all that matters. Move on.
